Signer Plugin

  • New Release: The Signer plugin is now available for every build (Doconut.NET8.Signer, Doconut.NET6.Signer, Doconut.NETStandard.Signer and Doconut.NETFramework.Signer). It signs PDF and Word documents from your own server code with DocumentSigner.SignAsync, or from a ready-made browser widget.
  • New Feature: Two signature modes. Certified adds a visible signature plus a cryptographic seal; Visual adds the visible signature only. A signed Word document can be returned as a sealed PDF or as DOCX.
  • New Feature: The seal is a detached PKCS#7 signature hashed with SHA-256, with RSA or ECDSA certificates. In PDF, the issuer chain in your certificate file is written into the seal, so the signed file validates on its own.
  • New Feature: Sign with your own PFX / PKCS#12 certificate, read from appsettings.json on ASP.NET Core or from web.config on .NET Framework. At startup, Doconut warns when the certificate is expired, not yet valid, or not issued for document signing, and a Certified signature with an expired certificate is refused. Hardware tokens, HSMs, and the Windows certificate store are not supported.
  • New Feature: The signing widget lets users upload a document and sign it by drawing, typing or uploading a signature image in PNG, JPG or GIF. Every label can be customized, and the widget explains when signing is not enabled on the server.
  • Enhancement: The signing reference includes a five-step "Using Signer in production" guide covering the license, the certificate, configuration and the startup check.
  • Enhancement: On .NET Framework 4.7.2, register the Signer plugin through DoconutHost.Initialize in Global.asax and the DocImage.axd handler in web.config. SigningCertificate uses init-only setters, so your project needs C# 9 or later (LangVersion 9.0). No startup log line is written; certificate errors are thrown from DoconutHost.Initialize.

Platform Updates

  • New Feature: Doconut for .NET 8 and .NET 6 now runs on Linux x64 and arm64 and opens every supported format there, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, CAD, email, PDF and images. Linux needs the libfontconfig1 system package; on .NET 6, use a Debian 12 (bookworm) based image. PowerPoint on Linux arm64 needs glibc 2.39 or later. A new Linux guide covers platforms, fonts and troubleshooting.
  • Enhancement: PowerPoint files now open on Windows machines that do not have the Visual C++ Redistributable installed, such as a clean Windows Server 2022. The required runtime files ship inside the .NET 8 and .NET 6 packages.
  • Enhancement: Every package now declares all the NuGet dependencies it needs, so console and worker applications, not only ASP.NET Core sites, no longer fail at run time because of a missing dependency.
  • Enhancement: When a required system library is missing on Linux, the error message names the package to install. Applications that use SkiaSharp 4 on Linux get a message explaining how to add the matching native assets.
  • Enhancement: New dependencies: SkiaSharp.NativeAssets.Linux on .NET 8 and .NET 6, System.Runtime.Loader on .NET Standard 2.1, and Microsoft.Extensions.Logging 9.0.0, System.Drawing.Common 5.0.3 and System.Memory 4.6.3 on .NET Framework 4.7.2.
  • Enhancement: DocumentSigner and DocumentConverter now report every engine failure as a DoconutException, so your code can handle signing and conversion errors with a single exception type. The exceptions Doconut raises on purpose keep their type.

Upgrade Notes

  • Breaking Change: Cloud storage now depends on AWSSDK.S3 4.0.104.4 instead of 3.7.x on every build. This removes NU1107 conflicts in applications that use other AWS SDK v4 packages; applications that pin AWSSDK.S3 3.x must move to 4.x.
  • Enhancement: On Linux, install the libfontconfig1 package and the fonts your documents use.
  • Enhancement: Binding redirects you added by hand for PDF, MHT or XPS on .NET Framework 4.7.2 are no longer needed. They can stay, but are not required.

.NET Framework 4.7.2

  • Bug Fix: PDF, MHT, MHTML and XPS documents now open in NuGet-based applications without a binding redirect written by hand in web.config. This works with packages.config and PackageReference, in web and non-web applications.
  • Bug Fix: DoconutHost now registers logging, so services that need a logger, such as the documented health-check sample, resolve from DoconutHost.Services. Nothing is written unless your application adds a log provider.

Distributed Deployment

  • Bug Fix: Widget uploads (Signer, Converter, Compare, Redact, Protect, Forms, Compress and Tools) no longer fail with a "could not find a part of the path" error after the shared folder's widgets subfolder is removed, for example by the share cleanup. The folder is now recreated on every upload, without restarting the node.

Word Viewer

  • Bug Fix: Improved line wrapping and tab stop positions so rendered Word pages match the source document more closely.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an error that could prevent documents containing waterfall charts from opening.

Word Converter

  • Bug Fix: Corrected page numbers in headers and footers when converting Word documents to PDF.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed a failure when converting Word documents that contain waterfall charts to PDF.
  • Bug Fix: WordToHtmlAsync and HtmlToWordAsync now apply the same license checks as ConvertAsync, including the evaluation watermark under a trial or demo license.

Excel Viewer

  • Bug Fix: Regional number formats, such as decimal and thousands separators and dates, now render correctly in worksheets.
  • Bug Fix: Arabic text in worksheets now renders in the correct direction.

Excel Converter

  • Bug Fix: Arrow shapes are no longer clipped when converting spreadsheets to PDF and HTML.
  • Bug Fix: Vertically flipped shapes now keep their orientation when converting spreadsheets to PDF.

PDF Viewer

  • Bug Fix: Fixed lines of text that could be missing or distorted in rendered PDF pages.

PDF Converter

  • Bug Fix: PDF to Word conversion now keeps text and content that could previously be garbled or dropped.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed text that could be missing when converting PDF to HTML and PNG.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed black pages when converting PDF to TIFF.

PowerPoint Viewer

  • Bug Fix: Charts in presentations now appear in rendered slides.

PowerPoint Converter

  • Bug Fix: Charts are no longer missing when converting presentations to PDF.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed failures when exporting presentations to PDF on .NET 8 and .NET 6, including fonts and double underline or strikethrough text on Linux.

  • Bug Fix: CorelDRAW (CDR) files now render instead of showing a black or blank page.
  • Bug Fix: EMF images now render correctly, including when converting to PNG and PDF.
  • Enhancement: AVIF images that could fail to open now open, with faster loading and lower memory use.

PSD Viewer

  • Enhancement: Very large PSB files with artboards now open.
  • Bug Fix: Stroke effects saved by recent Photoshop versions now render with the correct blending.
