26.9.0
September 30, 2026
Platform Updates
- New Release: Doconut is now available for .NET Framework 4.7.2, rebuilt on the same architecture as the .NET 8, .NET 6 V2 and .NET Standard 2.1 V2 builds. It replaces the .NET Framework 4.7 build and keeps publishing as the Doconut.NETFramework package.
- New Release: The .NET Framework 4.7.2 package ships the core viewer with annotations and search built in, plus the Converter and DICOM plugins as separate packages, and brings the plugin model and the distributed deployment path to classic ASP.NET applications.
- Enhancement: The Converter plugin's drop-in widget is now served directly from the System.Web handler on .NET Framework 4.7.2, so an MVC 5 or Web Forms page can offer conversion without a separate endpoint.
- Enhancement: The samples package for .NET Framework 4.7.2 includes the classic samples ported to the new API - an MVC 5 viewer, a multi-node web farm sample and a Web Forms sample - alongside a step-by-step migration guide.
.NET Framework 4.7.2 Upgrade Notes
- Breaking Change: The Doconut.NETFramework package moves from .NET Framework 4.7 to .NET Framework 4.7.2 under the same package id. Version 26.8.0 and below is the previous API; 26.9.0 and above is the new one. There is no compatibility shim, so raising the version number is the upgrade - retarget the project to 4.7.2 first and review the migration guide before you bump it.
- Breaking Change: The .NET Framework 4.7 line is discontinued and 26.8.0 is its last release. New releases, plugins, the distributed mode and the drop-in widgets arrive only on 26.9.0 and later.
- Breaking Change: Startup now goes through a composition root. Call DoconutHost.Initialize in Application_Start, register the DocImage.axd handler and resource module in Web.config, and resolve the viewer as a service instead of building one per request.
- Breaking Change: Conversion is now a plugin with a single entry point. The per-format converter configuration classes are replaced by one ConversionTarget enum and one ConvertAsync call, so the old per-format option objects have no equivalent.
- Breaking Change: The web farm flag no longer switches anything on. Multi-node deployments register the distributed services once, share one store and one signing key, and serve pages through a signed ticket bound to the browser.
- Deprecation: The ASP.NET Core pipeline extensions are marked obsolete in the .NET Framework 4.7.2 package and point to the Web.config registration that replaces them.
- Deprecation: DocOptions.IsWebFarm and DocOptions.WebFarmPath are marked obsolete in the .NET 8, .NET 6 V2 and .NET Standard 2.1 V2 builds. Nothing reads them any more, because farm mode is decided by whether the distributed services are registered. Existing code still compiles and only raises a warning.
Cloud Storage
- New Feature: Documents can now be published page by page into a cloud container. A document sent to Azure, S3, Google, DropBox, FTP or Redis becomes openable on its first page while the remaining pages are still uploading. Previously this first-page-priority path only worked against a folder.
- Enhancement: Every cloud store now answers "still rendering, retry" for a page that has not been uploaded yet. Previously the viewer received an error tile that looked like a successful response, so it never retried. (.NET 8, .NET 6 V2 and .NET Standard 2.1 V2 builds)
- Enhancement: The .NET 8 sample set now includes ready-to-run Azure Blob Storage and Amazon S3 samples that use the published package.
Viewer
- Bug Fix: The viewer's default image path now points to the folder the toolbar icons are actually served from, so a default installation no longer loads broken icons.
Word Viewer
- Bug Fix: Improved table placement so rendered Word pages match the source document more closely.
Excel Viewer
- New Feature: Viewer.GetWorksheetNames returns the worksheet names of an open spreadsheet in workbook order, so a host application can label pages or build a sheet selector. Hidden and empty worksheets are excluded, only the allowed worksheets appear when ExcelConfig.SheetNames restricts rendering, and a very large worksheet can span several pages.
- Bug Fix: Corrected the calculation of functions such as LET, REDUCE, TOCOL, XIRR, GROUPBY and PIVOTBY.
- Bug Fix: Improved pivot table handling in rendered worksheets.
Excel Converter
- Bug Fix: Improved the rendering of barcodes when converting spreadsheets to PDF.
- Bug Fix: Phonetic (furigana) text is now handled correctly when converting spreadsheets to PDF and XPS.
- Bug Fix: Corrected the calculation of functions such as LET, REDUCE, TOCOL, XIRR, GROUPBY and PIVOTBY during conversion.
- Bug Fix: Improved pivot table handling, including conversion to XLSB.
